“Miguel de Icaza, author of the Linux GNOME GUI and desktop
environment, is moving… to the Cambridge, Mass. area… and is
hiring staff to develop office software for GNOME. He worked
jointly with over 300 developers to build GNOME, one of whom, Nat
Friedman, will be joining him in the new venture.”

“He expects to have the company’s first batch of
applications ready by March 2000. The products will be available
free over the Internet.
De Icaza is hoping to build a service
based company along the lines of Red Hat and is intent upon
building up the GNOME brand. GNOME is currently in competition with
KDE for the hearts and minds of the Linux community.”
