IT-Director: Is Microsoft Taking out Linux Insurance

“According to Art Tyde, EVP of Linuxcare, a Linux support
company in San Francisco , “The word on the street is that
Microsoft has got 34 programmers working on porting Office to
Linux,” This can mean only one of two things; either Microsoft has
concluded that Linux is going to establish a desktop market or it
is buying insurance against the eventuality. Microsoft itself has
so far refused to confirm or deny this rumour.”

“Our doubts at the moment about desktop Linux revolve around how
Linux can maintain its profile in the long term without significant
marketing money being poured in to support it.”
