“Earlier this week, Inprise committed to bringing its popular
developer tools to Linux. Project “Kylix” is aiming for release
next year. There is strong developer support for the established C,
C++ and Delphi tools, and the move will be widely welcomed.”

“The Borland branded development environments have sold well.
They are particularly popular with specialist developers who work
alone or in small teams, typically building applications in
specialist areas. That is a significant element in the whole
applications mix, although Inprise has sought to move to a more
strategic position in corporate IT departments. While the company
has found progress slow in the corporate sector, its Borland
development products continue to be highly regarded.”

“Project Kylix is to be powered by a new compiler for Linux and
there will be a Linux version of the Borland Visual Component
Library. The result will be a component-based development
environment for GUI, Internet, database and server
applications.
In July, the company conducted the Borland Linux
Developer Survey, the results of which have shaped the Kylix
project.”
