Linux and Main: Proposed GNOME-2.2 Release Schedule

“When GNOME-2.0 was released in late June, it was billed as a
release aimed especially at developers, to give them a stable
target for porting their existing applications and for the creation
of new ones. The widespread adoption of the GNOME2 series of
desktops was expected to wait until 2.01, 2.02, or even 2.2, by
which time the user interface and underlying code will be more
mature.

“Last month, GNOME hackers met in Cambridge, MA, to hack toward
the 2.2 release. And now Ximian’s Luis Villa has proposed a
development and release schedule for 2.2 that, if adopted and
followed, would make GNOME-2.2 available at the end of
January…”
