“Cosource.com, the “cooperative market for open source” projects
and developers, recently announced the completion of their biggest
cooperatively funded Linux project to date: the port of Supermount
to version 2.2.”

Supermount is a pseudo-file system (also referred to as a
super file system) which provides kernel support for removable
media, such as CD-ROMs and floppy disks.
Recoded from Stephen
Tweedie’s earlier version for v.2.0, Supermount now provides
dynamic mounting for systems operating the most recent stable
version of the Linux kernel.”

“This port helps give Linux what Cosource co-founder, CEO and
President, Bernie Thompson called, “feature parity” with Windows
and Mac machines. “Right now,” said Thompson, referring to the
extra effort currently needed to use removable media with Linux,
“it’s a pain. It’s just difficult for users coming from the Windows
world.”
