How did you find your way to Ruby?

Charles Nutter: I had begun to hear more about
Ruby from friends in the fall of 2004 and was just starting to
learn it. I discovered that RubyConf 2004 would be held only a few
miles from Ventera’s home office, in Reston VA, so I planned a trip
out east to attend. I was excited about the language’s potential
and loved the enthusiasm and small size of the conference. I
wondered to myself whether there might be a Ruby implementation for
Java. While sitting at the conference, on day one of my ongoing
Ruby experience, I discovered the JRuby project being led at the
time by my friend and former co-worker Thomas Enebo. That was the
