Following IBM’s lead, Sun Microsystems sidles up to Linux
with Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

“Sun Microsystems will release a Java2-complaint version of the
Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for Linux, according to a story
published by InfoWorld. The Linux-based JVM will be available in
early 2000.”

“A “virtual machine” is Sun Microsystems’ terminology for a
software program that runs interference between Java binary code
and the processor itself. Once deployed on a particular platform,
the virtual machine will allow any Java program to run on that
platform.”
