The 4.14 kernel can be expected in early November 2017.  Some of the changes that will be found in this kernel are:

  • The ORC unwinder will generate more reliable tracebacks on kernel events; it is also a crucial component for more advanced live patching.
  • Control-group thread mode allows for finer-grained resource control and paves the way for the long-awaited integration of the CPU scheduler into the version-2 control-group mechanism.
