Pan is an open source, graphical newsgroup client for
Linux.
It is loosely modeled after Agent, a comparable
application for Microsoft Windows. Pan requires the GNOME
libraries. Since we use newsgroups at work to track internal
projects, and Netscape’s news reader is rather clumsy, I decided to
give Pan a try.”

“Pan has two alternate view modes, which is one of its nicer
user interface features. Paned Layout shows three sub-windows
within the application window where one window shows the newsgroup
names, another shows the message headers, and the third window
shows the message body. Notebook Layout shows just one of these
windows at a time within the full application window. A tab-bar
allows the user to switch between the newsgroup listing, message
headers, and message body windows.”
