“A customer we’ll call “Don” contacted the call center a few
weeks ago and told me of his serious problems. Formerly a UNIX
technical writer, he had suffered a massive stroke six months
before. Even after intensive rehabilitation, Don remained largely
paralyzed on the left side of his body. He felt well enough,
however, to think about resuming his career as a freelance
contractor. Of course, he could type with only one hand.”

“What are my options?” he asked.

“I told him a first piece of good news: given his situation, the
fact that he ran Linux was fortunate. Configuring the Linux console
so that text mode operations can be performed with one hand is not
at all hard to do. We got right to work.”
