“IBM has released its latest Java developer kit (JDK) for Linux,
and early response on the development site suggests its popularity
may soon obscure Sun’s version. Sifting through the specs, and
pondering the kit’s various changes is not a light read, but
probably is an important one to Linux developers and Java thrill
seekers….”

Tools such as this one may prove to be a shining example of
Big Blue’s commitment to nurturing Linux development across its
myriad hardware, a sentiment that is making more and more sense in
a flustered market.
“Linux is designed by the most brilliant
people in the world and it can run on anybody’s platform,” IBM
Technical and Strategy Vice President Irving Wladawsky-Berger told
the crowd. That in mind, it may be time to download the
kit….”

“IBM said its purpose for developing the JDK 1.3 for Linux is to
provide a Java 2 offering for Linux that is ready for e-business
deployment. “We feel our 1.3 offering provides the right balance of
performance, stability and security for deployment,” officials
said.”
