LinuxMall.com: Linux Consultant Teaches Secretaries to Kill [Programs]

“The partners and employees of a Detroit-area law firm recently
wired with thin clients running on a Linux server are pleased with
the system’s performance–and with the amount of time and money
saved in its implementation, said a partner at the law practice of
Cummings, McClorey, Davis and Acho.”

“There is a learning curve,” Seward admitted. “We run on the KDE
desktop, and sometimes you have to be reminded to single-click
instead of double-click,” he mentioned, noting that the habitual
double-click accidently issues duplicate commands. “Unique Systems
does a great deal of the systems administration from Toledo, and
it’s really kind of cool,” Seward explained. “They use secure shell
to get in and kill the runaway processes.” Five of the secretaries
have had crash courses in Linux through Unique Systems, he said,
and are able to use the `kill’ command themselves.”

“There are still a couple of people who like Windows and
miss PowerPoint and prefer Excel to Applix.”
But overall, he
said, the law firm is “very pleased” with the performance of its
new system. “We wanted a comfort level with it,” he said.”
