“BORG, or the BMRT Ordinary Rendering GUI (graphical user
interface) is a free network rendering system for BMRT with a
graphical manager frontend. Thiele says that BORG is being
developed in Java and its final version runs on virtually all
BMRT-supported platforms, including Linux, Solaris, IRIX, and
Windows 95, 98, and NT….”
“Thiele and Kirchner are not alone in the BORG; together, they
are two of three. “There is also another one making the pictures
and icons of the program,” Thiele says, but he and Kirchner met
over their studies four years ago. “We both have studied
informatics and physics since 1996 at the University of Leipzig
[Germany], where we also first met….”
“They soon became intrigued with Java’s power and flexibility.
“While developing BORG we noticed that we could do much more
than what was necessary to do a successful Java project. In other
words, we extended the project adding several features and making
it a functional tool which could actually be used by someone,”
Thiele says.”
