“JCraft, a Japanese software development company, has launched
WiredX.net to enable Windows and other operating system (OS) users
the power of Java to switch to X. WiredX.net is intended to provide
free distribution service of the X Window System server written in
pure Java, WiredX and WiredX-Lite, which enable access to UNIX
applications from Microsoft Windows via recently released Web
browsers.”

“According to the company, “WiredX.net is an ASP (Application
Service Provider) that provides pure Java X Window System servers,
WiredX and WiredX-Lite, directly to your Web browser. WiredX and
WiredX-Lite enable access to UNIX applications on your LAN [local
area network] from your non-UNIX desktops.”

“In short, “Our mantra is `Wrap every desktop in an X Window
system,'”
said JCraft founder Atsuhiko Yamanaka. Yamanaka,
also JCraft’s CEO, said that the proliferation of X server usage is
a good thing for the free and Open Source communities. “We are
convinced the X servers will leverage the growth of the GNU/Linux,
BSD, UNIX, and X communities and [expand] their marketing
opportunities;
we firmly believe WiredX.net will contribute to
their success.”
