“Durand describes Jabber’s recent growth. ‘The interesting thing
about the number of installed servers is that about 45 days ago, we
checked and it was at 97 servers running, and then last week is was
over a thousand. That’s about a ten-x increase in 45 days.'”

“Jabber’s burgeoning popularity did not go unnoticed, Durand
said. ‘There’s probably at least 100 to 200 of those 10,000 that
are Fortune 500 companies. Jabber.com, on the commercial side, has
been contacted by about three or four dozen of those Fortune 500
companies, and we’re well down the road with a number of them for
contracts for professional services, and engagements for them to
license our enterprise server, or in helping them deploy Jabber,’
Durand continued. ‘It’s some of the biggest financial institutions,
the biggest consulting groups, several Internet infrastructure and
IP telephony partners–it’s just all over the map,’ he said. ‘There
is a movement afoot, that’s for sure.'”

“Jabber’s appeal seems to be increasingly universal, Durand
said. ‘We’re the only open source movement in this space. There are
Jabber clients running in every known [programming]language on
every operating system (OS). As far as programming languages, we
have C, C++, Delphi, Visual Basic, Java, Mozilla, PHP, Perl,
Python, HTTP, every conceivable language. The server runs on
Windows NT, Solaris, FreeBSD, every flavor of UNIX and every flavor
of Linux,’ Durand said.”
