“Collab.net, Inc. has received initial funding from Benchmark
Capital. Founded in May 1999 by President and CTO Brian Behlendorf,
co-founder of the Apache Software Foundation, and O’Reilly &
Associates, Collab.net provides scalable services and
infrastructure for the development of Open Source software.”

“Collab.net’s first project, sourceXchange, is a dynamic
marketplace for the funding of Open Source software projects
(http://www.sourceXchange.com). In its first week of operation,
sourceXchange has posted seven RFPs (Requests for Proposals) from
founding sponsor Hewlett-Packard and signed up over 2000 Open
Source developers. Other Collab.net services under development will
be announced in Fall ’99.”

“‘We’re believers in the business opportunities created by Open
Source,’ said Kevin Harvey, general partner, Benchmark. ‘Like Red
Hat, another Benchmark investment, Collab.net’s business model adds
real value to the Open Source development process. The deep
understanding of Open Source’s potential brought by Brian
Behlendorf and O’Reilly & Associates sets Collab.net apart from
other ventures, and puts them at the forefront of the next big
Internet wave–eServices.'”
