“ImageStream Internet Solutions has released the source
code
to its new network driver architecture called SAND
(Standard Architecture for Network Drivers). The new Linux driver
architecture is an advanced software component system for
developing network drivers for Linux.”

“SAND for Linux makes it possible to develop driver components
for serial hardware, channel service hardware, and data link
protocols independently from each other.
ImageStream officials
say the new technology can cut development cycles by as much as
75%.”

“In addition to delivering a powerful component architecture for
developers, the SAND system provides a standard method for
reporting real-time port status, protocol status, link performance,
and more. The SAND driver components are managed by the configmgr
daemon which provides system glue, while real-time monitoring is
provided by ImageStream’s stats program.”
