NetGem…brings Linux-based open architecture to mass
market consumer electronics.

“In a major development, NetGem, Europe’s leading manufacturer
of interactive set-top boxes, has announced that the next
generation of the NetBox will move to a new Linux-based operating
system (OS).”

“Open architecture and interoperability have been two of the
guiding concepts in designing the NetBox right from the start. It
is, therefore, significant that the NetBox is the first device for
the mass consumer market to run on Linux”, said Joseph Haddad,
NetGem’s co-founder and CEO. “In the programming world, Linux means
speed, stability, ease of use and, above all, openness. As the
Internet and web-based applications evolve, we want to ensure that
NetGem’s products continue to set the pace. We believe that the
true innovators today are tuned into Linux, and will provide us
with that edge for the future.”
