LinuxPR: New Release of Omnis Studio Will Extend the Integrated Tool Set for the Web

“Omnis Software today released the latest beta of Omnis Studio
3.0. The new version, due to be released later this year, will
include more tools to seamlessly integrate legacy systems with the
latest Web technologies. These include the previously announced
drag and drop WAP development tool together with a number of
enhancements to the unique Omnis Web Client technology.”

“The new version of Web Client will allow multithreading to
provide a better response to large numbers of simultaneous hits on
a single data resource ideal for scalable ASPs. This has been done
by rewriting the Data Access Modules (DAMs) which connect Omnis
applications to databases such as Oracle, Sybase, DB2, Informix or
via ODBC. In addition, the Application Programming Interface (API)
has been opened up so that developers can write their own DAMs.
This means that they should be able to connect their other SQL
databases to an Omnis front end to take full advantage of Omnis
Studio’s extensive functionality.”

“There is improved load sharing and balancing for Web server
processing, and some code can now optionally be run at the client
end to improve performance.
New controls such as clock,
progress bar and slider have been added to the client side of Web
Client, and a number of other enhancements have been included aimed
at improving web performance.
