LinuxPR: SGI Introduces New Feature-rich VPRO Graphics for Linux and IRIX Desktop Systems

“SGI (NYSE:SGI) today unveiled a new family of graphics
subsystems called “VPro graphics” for Windows NT, Linux and IRIX
desktop workstations. The company also announced today, the first
desktops to feature SGI VPro graphics, the Silicon Graphics 230,
Silicon Graphics 330 and Silicon Graphics 550 visual workstations
for Microsoft Windows NT and Linux.”

“SGI offers two distinct implementations of VPro graphics. The
first implementation is available today for Windows NT and Linux
with the Silicon Graphics 230, 330 and 550 visual workstations. SGI
has developed a second, more robust and full-featured
implementation for the IRIX platform that will be announced later
this quarter. Both implementations of VPro graphics leverage SGI’s
expertise in OpenGL with full hardware-acceleration of the OpenGL
1.2 core feature set on a single chip.”

“Today we bring the first ever hardware-accelerated graphics
to the Linux platform and we’re not stopping there.
SGI’s VPro
family is at the forefront of graphics technology and our lead will
only increase in coming months as we continue to expand and enhance
our product offering.”
