pleased to announce the eighth beta (version 0.9.8) of our Aethera Messaging
and Groupware client for Linux using Qt. New releases are coming
much more frequently now. This release includes lots of bug fixes
and speed improvements as well as final support for commercial plug
ins which will become available in the next few days. Most of the
details for the project roadmap can be found at
www.thekompany.com/projects/aethera, but this is subject to change
as we are constantly researching new features. The web site has
also now been updated, so it is now current. Bug reports,
suggestions and ideas can be sent to aethera@thekompany.com.

Here is what is new and updated in this release:

  • It keeps the last geometry and configuration
  • Easier management of mail lists
  • A new header view which allows you to have more actions for
    header fields.
  • A new set of actions in Actions->GoTo menu entry for a
    easier mail browsing.
  • 2 new arrow buttons for going to the next or previous unread
    mail.
  • Embedded HTML links can now spawn an external browser by
    clicking.
  • More effecient management of mail accounts.
  • A completely new AddressBook User Interface that is faster and
    easier to work with.

One of the advantages to a pure Qt application is that
distribution is now far easier than it was before. We’ve provided a
binary in a tarball format, just download the files from
www.sf.net/projects/aethera, login as root and do:

Using the tarball (absolute path)

tar xvfz aethera-0.9.8-i386-linux.tar.gz -P

After installation you can run by typing:

/usr/local/bin/aethera

We would also like to thank our friends at Sourceforge where the
download files and bug tracking is now being hosted at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/aethera/. For the time being the
CVS is still on theKompany.com servers.
