“In response to growing interest worldwide, Trolltech is
expanding its “Qt University” education program. Qt is Trolltech’s
flagship product — a fully object-oriented, C++ GUI application
framework that has everything the software developer needs to
quickly and easily create and maintain professional-looking GUI
applications. Many computer science departments are already taking
advantage of the well- known open source version of Qt for Unix.
Through Trolltech’s Education Program, those who wish to teach Qt
in a Windows-based environment can receive a free site license for
Qt/Windows. This opportunity removes a significant cost burden from
today’s cash-strapped universities. Computer science educators are
also finding that Qt’s cross-platform applicability is extremely
useful for preparing students for a job market that is sure to
consist of many different platforms.”

“Qt has already been selected as a teaching tool by more than
one hundred university computer science departments in over 25
different countries,” said Haavard Nord, CEO of Trolltech. “We have
received some very positive feedback on how Qt is being
incorporated into both graduate and undergraduate coursework, in
support of both Unix- and Windows-based applications. Of course
it’s gratifying to see Qt being taught in big institutions like
Stanford and the University of Tokyo, but we’ve also had
correspondence from as far afield as the Tibetan Buddhist Cultural
Society – a group that is currently developing a Tibetan text
viewer. It’s extremely rewarding for us to support this universal
educational process, and we want to expand our outreach to any
college or university that is interested in using Qt for teaching
or research.”

“Qt has been on the market since 1995, and has been used by
leading companies such as HP, IBM, Intel, Siemens and Ericsson.
Widely used on Linux, Qt is the basis for the popular KDE desktop
environment included in every Linux distribution. Qt’s superior
online documentation is heavily cross-referenced and available in
various formats, accessible from Trolltech’s website. Online
tutorials are also available to explain Qt programming step by
step.”
