You’ll often hear Microsoft’s critics talk of the way users
are ‘locked into Windows’. It’s time for the Linux community to
turn this thinking around and consider why we are sometimes locked
out of Linux.

“My recent personal experience is a good example of how this
works. I’ve been using Linux as my desktop OS for over a year.
During that time I’ve found that it is possible to perform most but
not all my everyday computing tasks – remember I’m a writer not a
programmer – in Linux. There are a few Windows applications I can’t
live without, but by and large I’ve been able to spend the bulk of
my working week running Linux.”

“That was until about six weeks ago when my family purchases one
of those new fancy 3 megapixel digital cameras and a
high-resolution colour ink-jet printer.”
