“And on that other emerging desktop front (the web) we’re seeing
market improvements from the Beast of Legend – Mozilla. A few
months ago LinuxToday.com.au ran an article reviewing Galeon, the
web browser which throws a frame around the Mozilla HTML rendering
engine. Now, we’re back to take a closer look at Mozilla, and it’s
progress.”

“In those short months, the Mozilla team seems to be focussing
on making Mozilla faster and faster every day. I’ve been
downloading the nightly builds each night, and every night I seem
to notice a small speed increment. A couple of months ago, you
could wait half a second after clicking on a menu item for it to
begin loading. Now, with speed improvements deluxe, Mozilla behaves
like Internet Explorer – the menu items are quick as a
flash….

“One complaint I have – Mozilla Team – where is the Images
button? If you’re paying for downloading, as many people are, the
Images button in Netscape was one of the most useful features to be
able to choose when you want those megabyte hogging images. It’s
not in Mozilla, instead, you can choose to encounter a dialogue box
every time Mozilla loads a new page, which I found quite
irritating. Mozilla does provide a very useful way to block
advertisements though – you can simply choose to receive images
from the originating server. Most ads are imported from
advertisement dedicated servers, so you can mostly evade them.”
