“What is kaptain? I can hear those impatient people up the back
of the class whispering to themselves. Well, it’s not the latest
Something For Kate single, although I thought it deserved as much
fanfare. Disregarding the obligatory joke about the speed at which
English words beginning with ‘K’ are running out for the KDE
foundation, from kaptains’ home page –

Kaptain is a universal graphical front-end for
command line programs.

“Now this might sound a bit unassuming, and indeed it is.
However don’t let the lack of explanation put you off. In plain
English, with Kaptain, you can turn all of your favourite terminal
commands into graphical equivalents, which can be interacted with
via the mouse.”

“Sound ground breaking? It sure is. Kaptain uses .kaptn files,
which are simple text scripts edited in any way you choose. The
script “describes the possible arguments for a command line
program”. Kaptain then interprets this script, and puts up into
your X-windows display a simple Qt-based window with all of your
options detailed.”
