“Last week I wrote about the need for a decent console word
processor. You can read about the response to that story elsewhere.
This week I want to look closer at the options for graphical word
processing.”

“This isn’t a comprehensive list, nor is it an in-depth review.
I’ve picked out the most obvious candidates and in some cases I’ve
only looked fleetingly at the software. If you want to do your own
research (and frankly there is no better way to find out what suits
your exact needs) then there’s a reasonably comprehensive list of
available freeware and commercial word processors at Christopher
Browne’s Linux Word Processing page.”

First some ground rules. Unstable or premature code worries
me – for me writing is my business, I can’t take risks – so I’ve
limited my investigations to those products that are reasonably
mature and stable. With a couple of exceptions I’ve avoided dead or
near-dead programs.
