“For many, Brian Behlendorf embodies the spirit of the open
source movement. He
started his professional life as a Web
developer for HotWired in 1995, co-founded the Apache Project,
and is now CTO of new technology for the book and software
publisher O’Reilly & Associates,
one of the champions of
the Linux movement. If that is not enough, now Behlendorf is using
his position at O’Reilly to bring some much-needed organization to
the Linux open source movement.

“I caught up with Behlendorf as he put the finishing touches to
the O’Reilly booth at LinuxWorld on Monday and asked him: what’s
new?

“As usual with Behlendorf, the answer was — plenty. He told me
about the latest developments with Apache 2.0; the official launch
of a new Web site called SourceXchange, which will match open
source developers with companies willing to commission their work;
and the recent formation of the Apache Software Foundation.”
