“The whole KDE install has been simplified around ease of use;
double click on a file and it opens it in the right program or asks
what it should do if it doesn’t know the file based on its
extension. This is a very Windows-friendly approach and feels very
non-threatening. User data can be easily found under the Personal
Files folder on the desktop. This abstraction makes me believe that
the average user could indeed use Lycoris indefinitely without ever
giving much thought to what’s underneath, particularly in a
corporate environment with mapped drives to Windows servers.

“The inclusion of KOffice with Lycoris means that this system
could easily fit into a corporate environment. To help achieve that
goal, it comes fitted with Samba 2.2.1a as well as WINE, which
allows Windows program to be executed from the Linux environment.
The test for me was to see if it could access my domain at work and
connect and open files. We run a windows NT4 domain moving to
Windows 2000…”
