New Zealand Herald: Linux-based PC bypasses Microsoft

Intel has revealed a “completely Microsoft-free” PC running
the Linux operating system, which will go on sale in
June….

“But by far the most revolutionary aspect of the appliance is
that there is no Microsoft Windows involved. Mr Leglise showed a
user interface designed by Intel software engineers using free
“open source” Linux operating system and a Netscape Mosaic web
browser.”

“As well as web access and e-mail, applications included a
calendar, diary, voicemail, messaging notes, scrolling ticker
messages, a software-based MP3 player for downloadable music and
the ability to configure the interface for multiple family
users.”
