NewsBytes: HP To Expand Linux Involvement

“Hewlett-Packard Co. is forming an internal group specifically
to work with the open source software, or OSS, global community,
Newsbytes has learned. The firm plans to make an official
announcement March 1 at the Linux World Expo in San Jose,
Calif.”

“For the PA-RISC port, HP will work with volunteers from
Ottawa-based Puffin Group to coordinate the port among, what an HP
source called, a ‘distributed team across the world.'”

“Puffin Group developers will manage the core porting project,
which HP calls the HPPA/Linux development project. HP will
contribute marketing and technical resources, including both
hardware and software. In typical OSS fashion, volunteers around
the world will rely on Internet communications to keep their work
focused and interoperable.”
