“…Finally, but perhaps most significantly, comes the fact that
most functions in Linux are best executed from the command line in
a terminal — and there are many that can only be executed that
way.”

“With all the hoopla surrounding Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows
XP replacement, almost forgotten is the singular fact that it is
the first consumer-oriented version of Windows not built upon a DOS
foundation. Unknown to most people who have come to computer use in
the past 10 years or so, DOS was almost universally despised for
many reasons, a salient one of which was its command line
orientation.”

In fact, Windows (and the Mac OS) was invented in order to
escape the blinking command line cursor. So why ever, even in a
more stable operating system, would I choose to go back to it? Yet,
that is what Linux use demands. No thank you. With all its faults,
I’ll stick with Windows.
