“NewsForge learned recently, as a result of electronic
conversations with an anonymous (but well-known) Linux kernel
hacker, that chatter among some kernel hackers reflects a degree of
distrust of OSDL, the Open Source Development Lab. This report airs
the major issues identified in those conversations and allows OSDL
the opportunity to respond to them. We also asked IDC analyst Dan
Kusnetzky and two kernel hackers who work for OSDL, Linus Torvalds
and Andrew Morton, to weigh in with their own comments on OSDL’s
role and behavior…

“During the past year, Linus Torvalds and Andrew Morton have
both been hired by OSDL, allowing them to work full-time on the
Linux kernel. Timesys, Unilever, Ulticom, Sun, Turbolinux, NTT Data
Intellilink, NTT Comware, Wind River, Novell, and Network Appliance
also joined OSDL in 2003…”
