“Justin Simoni is the author of Mojo Mail, an excellent
web-based mailing list manager for those of us who don’t admin
their own server, but have access to cgi-bins with hosting
providers. All that and it’s hipper than Majordomo and mailman…
We pin down the programmer/artist to talk about Mojo Mail’s
artistic inspiration, it’s hipness, and what the future holds for
both the program and the art of programming.

OSDir: You describe Mojo Mail as a hipper
version of Majordomo. Just how unhip is Majordomo and what makes
Mojo Mail so much more hip?

Justin: Ah, that would be youthful
invincibility of an 18 year old speaking. I missed the whole
BBS/email discussion list phase of the Internet, being surprised
the Christmas of 1998 with a Gateway PC in one of those odd, cow
spotted boxes. I probably got that brand new computer because it
matched the decor of our kitchen. Majordomo seemed to be a dinosaur
that harkened back to the phase where it was common to send archaic
commands to a special email address. I would read about such
mythical beasts from the past in discounted programming books I
would pick up for three dollars from the bargain rack…”
