“At the first major trade show dedicated to commercial Linux
applications, major (and minor) vendors came forward to support the
alternative operating system.”

“At LinuxWorld, Linus Torvalds, the inventor and hero of the
open-source movement, gave a speech encouraging his fellow Linux
developers and challenging Microsoft. Linuxcare, a company that
provides Linux technical support to Fortune 1000 companies,
announced Torvalds’s landslide online election as the next leader
of the free world. Torvalds won 73 percent of the votes, easily
beating other candidates Bill Gates (9 percent, George W. Bush, Jr.
(6 percent), Bill Bradley (5 percent), Al Gore (4 percent), and Dan
Quayle (4 percent).”
