America Online Inc. is quietly preparing to release updates
to the open-source version of its Instant Messenger
software….

“AOL is now saying that a new version of TiK, an instant
messaging client intended as a Unix alternative, will be
developed.”

“TiK 1.x will be released in early December 1999 and will be
compatible with 90 percent of TiK 0.x packages & features. More
information will be posted in a few weeks. Thank you for your
continued support,” reads a statement on the AOL Web site.”
