“Red Hat Software Inc. led the cheering at the LinuxWorld
Conference and Expo here last week with the introduction of a Linux
portal Web site.”

“Building on its recently announced 24-by-7 support program, the
Research Triangle Park, N.C., company is consolidating the efforts
of several smaller Linux support sites, such as slashdot.org and
www.freshmeat.net, into a single portal interface on its own Web
site.”

“The portal, which was due to go live last week, provides a
Linux application index for downloading the latest developer tools
and applications, user groups and discussion forums for Linux
developers and users, and a Linux-specific search engine. The
portal also links to other Linux support and distribution sites,
Red Hat officials said.”
