In its 15-year existence, Open-Source Software has shaken
up the markets for Unix utilities, Internet servers and, most
notably, operating systems. Now it is headed for a market where its
impact could be even greater: high-level corporate Web
applications.

“PC Week Labs evaluated a prebeta version of perhaps the first
e-commerce application to be offered as open source code: OpenSales
Inc.’s OpenMerchant, an e-commerce development application released
under a GPL (general public license)….”

Valley startup generator-will lower the barrier to entry for
companies interested in advanced customization of open-source Web
