PCWEEK: Informix, Sybase move enterprise databases to Linux

Linux brings to the table the extensibility and reliability of
any big-time Unix but significantly more stability than NT.

Dynamic Server 7.3, Informix’s flagship database, will be
available for Linux either in the fourth quarter of this year or
the first quarter of 1999, according to sources close to the Menlo
Park, Calif., company.

Informix (IFMX) also plans to ship within days its Dynamic 4GL
development toolkit for Linux, enabling developers to build GUI
applications on and for Linux.

Meanwhile, rival database developer Sybase Inc. recently ported
its Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5 to Linux, making it available
through Linux vendors Red Hat Software Inc. and Caldera Inc.
