“XFree86 4.0.2 Status
Rage128, Permedia 2/3, and fbdev (for control, valkyrie,
platinum, etc) work ‘out of box’. A concerted effort is being made
to add support for PowerPC computers to be merged into the next
release. Here is list of what works in the specialized 4.0.2
trees
being worked on by Ani Joshi, Ben Herrenschmidt, and
others. …”

“Should I be Running XF4.0.2?
Perhaps, check with your vendor to see if they have a version
availble. LinuxPPC 2K Q4, SuSE 7.0, and Debian Woody come with
XF4.0.1 which may be more reliable on your particular machine. If
what you have works, wait for an official vendor update. If you
break your system playing with test binaries, _do not_ show up in
#ppclinux on OPN and ask for help. Jeramy has helped over 50 people
get XF4.0.1 installed and configured and is frankly tired. There is
still much testing being done with XF 4.0.2 so until your vendor
provides a test release you may want to wait.”
