“Corel Corp. will today unveil Linux versions of its flagship
software and new graphics technology that could dramatically boost
Linux’s viability as an alternative to Microsoft Windows.”

“In a keynote speech at the Linux World Conference in San Jose,
Michael Cowpland, Corel’s president and chief executive, will
describe his company’s new Linux-based graphical user interface —
the screen users see and work on when they’re running a personal
computer.”

“Mr. Cowpland believes the innovation will make Linux as easy to
use as its more dominant rival, the Windows operating system. It’s
the latest move in a campaign, by Corel and other companies, to
unseat Microsoft Windows as the dominant operating system.”
