“IBM Corp. said yesterday it will begin selling products and
offering support services for Linux, the open-source software
operating system, by the end of June. Last month, the world’s
largest computer maker said it would provide hardware, software and
technical support for businesses using Linux, calling itself the
first company to offer a complete Linux package. ?Customers are
asking about Linux,? said Jonathan Prial, director (integrated
solutions and Linus marketing) for IBM, adding that his company
wanted to ?get with Linux early? (Gaz E3).”

“IBM has joined a growing number of major companies that have
endorsed the fledgling software. Big computer-makers including
Compaq and Hewlett-Packard are also selling machines loaded with
Linux. Major Canadian companies using Linux for business
applications include Canadian National Railway Co. and Ottawa-based
Corel Corp., which will develop software for a multilingual version
of WordPerfect 8 for Linux.”
