“Today the Trillian project team announced that the port of
Linux to Intel’s forthcoming IA-64 architecture is up and
running on the Intel IA-64 software development
environment.”

“Formed earlier this year, the Trillian project includes Cygnus
Solutions, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, SGI and VA Linux Systems
and represents the first major effort by the server and workstation
industry to support an Open Source project of this depth and scale.
Other major contributors are expected to join the project.
Additionally, the Trillian project will work closely with Linux
distributors to ensure timely release of their offerings. Results
of the project will become available online to the Open Source
community within approximately six months, allowing software
developers to develop applications for the Linux environment.”

” ‘We are pleased with the progress that the Trillian team is
making on the development of Linux for Merced,’ said Ron Curry,
Director of Marketing, Intel IA-64 Processor Division.”
