Question of the Day: What’s Up with Kerberos and Hailstorm?

A reader asks:

Has anyone got any thoughts about Kerberos being used in
Microsoft’s Hailstorm initiative? I know Slashdot was pretty vocal
about Kerberos back in June 2000 when Microsoft threatened to sue
unless instructions showing how to bypass the Kerberos licensing
agreement were removed.

Has the Kerberos solution within Hailstorm become more open
since then? Any veterans of that spat care to share their
thoughts?
