“Ricoh Silicon Valley, a subsidiary of Ricoh Company, Ltd., has
become the first major Japanese technology company to release open
source code of an internally developed software platform. In
announcements made at LinuxWorld last week, Ricoh joined an
expanding community of Open Source developers by publishing the
source code for its Platform for Information Applications (PIA),
and launching RiSource.Org, a website for developers creating new
information applications. Ricoh’s revolutionary PIA framework is
designed specifically for light-weight, task-specific information
applications and is distinguished by its ability to embed
intelligence and action into collections of active web pages
without the need to learn a programming language.”
