“Monday was Microsoft’s day in the sun at the giant Comdex
computer trade show. By nightfall, competitors were lining up to
rain on the software giant’s parade….”

“Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system that many
see as a threat to Microsoft, took the first swing. In his keynote
address Monday night, Torvalds listed his five reasons for
writing “open source” software, including: “You won’t get sued for
anti-competitive practices.
” With open-source software, the
code is available to anyone. That’s not the case with Microsoft’s
proprietary operating system….”

“First of all, Novell is actively delivering directories,” said
Eubanks, making a not-so-veiled reference to Microsoft’s Active
Directory, which will ship when Windows 2000 does.”
