Seattle Times: Site aims to deflate Linux hype

“There’s a penguin that seems to have Microsoft just a little
paranoid.”

“Linux, the computer operating system that’s generated an
avalanche of publicity over the past year, has Microsoft’s
attention. The operating system, which has its own cuddly little
penguin mascot, is the subject of a new Web page on Microsoft’s
site that seeks to debunk Linux “myths.”

“A year ago, the software giant seemed to disdain Linux, which
rhymes with cynics. At a press conference at the Comdex computer
trade show last November, Microsoft President Steve Ballmer
referred to the operating system as “LIE-nucks.” When he was
asked if he were sure of the pronunciation, Ballmer quipped, “There
is no financial incentive to answering that question.
