In a just concluded telephone teleconference, SGI has announced
the appointment of Bob Bishop as CEO and Chairman of the Board,
replacing Rick Belluzzo who has resigned to accept a non-CEO
position in a non-competing industry.

The Peluzzo resignation was voluntary and came as a surprise,
according to an SGI spokesperson.

Bob Bishop is an over 30-year veteran of the computer industry.
He has been with SGI since 1986 and a member of the board of
directors since 1993.

In a statement, Bob Bishop said that this is a critical time for
SGI, which August 10 announced a major shift in strategy. Bishop
said he fully supports the new strategy; the difficulty will be in
its execution.

The new SGI strategy combines SGI’s traditional roles as a
leader in high performance computing and performance graphics with
a new focus on broadband Internet, where SGI sees itself becoming a
major player.

According to Bishop, SGI is returning to its starting point of
five years ago but is now able to leverage the new elements of the
Internet, the Linux fever, the 64-bit Merced chip, and the ability
to outsource development of its performance graphics chip.

SGI is aiming for a return to profitability by the fourth
quarter of this year.
