I love Excel. There, I said it. Anti-Microsoft agitators
reading this will cringe, but the idea of giving up my Windows
workstation for Linux is hampered by my admiration for Excel and
its many elegant features. And I’m not alone.
I’ve heard that
very same phrase of endearment in places both public and private
(mostly private). If I’m a freak, then there are a lot of us.”

“So when I heard that Gnumeric supports almost all of Excel’s
functions, I had to see for myself. To replace my beloved Excel
with a non-proprietary version seemed impossible, but then again, I
would have thought it impossible to replace my pet gecko that died.
In time, the pain softens, the memories dim ?”

“With heart pounding as if I were saying goodbye to an old
flame, I installed Gnumeric onto my KDE desktop. Not an
exceptionally difficult task, but it took a few minutes.
Installation of Gnumeric is automatic when you install Gnome, but
if you want to run it in KDE you have to download and install the
Gnome libraries.”
