“With the recent ruling by Judge Jackson against Microsoft, the
next question begs to be asked: How will this ruling affect Linux?
Rather favorably, I say, and here’s why.”

“The breakup plan proposed by Judge Jackson requires that
Microsoft split into 2 completely separate companies. One of those
companies will be devoted to Operating Systems (DOS, Windows,
Windows ME, etc.), and the other applications. I addition to the
breakup, Jackson has imposed some severe restrictions regarding
Microsoft’s business conduct. These restrictions will limit
Microsoft’s interactions with some of the world’s largest computer
manufacturers and software developers.”

“…So the DOJ judgment against Microsoft will provide more
opportunity for software developers to create programs for a new
market, provide a better climate for hardware and software
developers and manufacturers to cooperate, and provide an
alternative operating system for more programs, whether they are
office applications or games.
