Signal Ground: Phat Linux 3.3 Review

“The other day a plain brown envelope arrived on my doorstep
from Sandusky, Ohio. Upon opening up the package, I found a single
CDROM in a clear transparent sleeve which was labeled Phat Linux
v.3.3. No introductory letter, no reviewer’s guide and no manual.
Just a single, lonely CDROM. After getting reams of paperwork,
discs, books, stickers, etc. from other distributions, this one was
as bare bones as you can get and completely free of marketing
hype/BS.”

“Obviously, the people from Phat Linux expected things to be
self-explanatory and to go pretty smoothly. Otherwise, they would
of included some instructions, right? This distribution’s ease of
installation, configuration and use will be reviewed here. Proceed
to find out how things went!”

“The only thing I really knew about Phat Linux before I started
this review was that they seemed to be targeting Windows users. The
big attraction to this distribution seemed to be that it didn’t
require repartitioning of your hard drive. So if you already were
running Windows and wanted to satisfy your Linux curiosity, this
distribution might be a good choice.”
